This guide is designed for the Fall 2016 Mental Health Law Class

Introduction

Introduction

This LibGuide is designed for use by law students in a Mental Health Law seminar.

Mental health and/or disability law is an area of considerable legal and social complexity. It is an interdisciplinary study of mental disability, civil commitment, therapeutic jurisprudence, competency, and countless other areas of law. "Conceptually, mental health law contains implied premises as to what it is to be a citizen, what the role of the state is with reference to the vulnerable and the bizarre in society, and what the relative roles of law and medicine are in the regulation and control of deviance" (Bartlett & Sandland 2007). The complex, interdisciplinary nature provides an environment full of ripe research topics. This guide aims to provide a step-by-step process to enable students to successfully complete a seminar paper focused on mental health law.
