National Library Week 2020-Find Your Place at the Library

National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation's libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support.

Passports will be available at the Circulation desk.  These passports have the activities that will be held throughout the week, as well as a place for a date stamp.  You will receive a stamp for each activity you participate in during the week.  If you get a stamp for 1-6 activities, your name will be entered in the drawing once.  If you get a stamp for 7 or more activities, your name will be entered twice.  You must turn the Passports in to the Circulation desk by 5 p.m. on Friday, April 17 to be entered.  The winner will be announced the following Monday.  The more events you participate in, the better your chance to win a Kindle!

List of Ongoing Activities

There will be a poster on display that will have popular law-related movies, books, or T.V. shows.  With only being able to see the poster, you must guess the titles of the materials.  Turn in the worksheet to the circulation desk to receive the stamp on your passport.  Winner will receive a prize.

Each law librarian will have a certain task to complete.  You must ask to see them when you go to the circulation desk.  Paul Gatz, Marin Dell, and Josh Pluta have offices that connect to the 1st floor collaboration area, so you can access their offices there.

There will be a poster set up with a number of banned books.  You must give at least two reasons as to why these books were banned, and turn the worksheet in to the circulation desk to get your stamp.  Winner will receive a prize; everyone gets a stamp for participation.

There will be a display that has child/baby photos and you must guess who the faculty member is.  Turn the worksheet into the circulation desk to receive your stamp.  Winner will earn a prize.

Be sure to like and follow the law library on Facebook (Texas Tech University School of Law Library) and Twitter (@TechLawLibrary).  We will be doing lots of social media giveaways, and it's a great way to keep up with information and updates during the week!

You will take a picture or video of you or your friends showing how you use the library (studying in your carrel, checking out study aids etc.).  You will then upload the picture/video to our Facebook or Twitter page and our followers will then get to vote on the winner!  Winner will receive a prize, and participation will earn you a stamp for your passport.

*No vulgarity in pictures/videos

*Maximum time allowed on videos will be 1 minute

This survey will be a way for you to tell us how to improve our services.  Show the circulation desk confirmation that you completed the survey, and receive a stamp.  Follow the link to take the survey!

Information about Activities

The activities do not have to be completed in any order, and can be done at your convenience during the week.  Activities with posters will stay up the entire week, so you can complete those at any time.  Librarians will be available for challenges from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. during the week (availability for individuals will vary depending on lunches, meetings, etc.).
